THE continued barking of a stray dog is reckoned to be the reason guards at the Tacumbu prison in Asuncion in Paraguay were alerted to an attempted breakout by three inmates.
It is believed that the three men, described as “dangerous” by officials, were about to walk free after digging an eight-metre tunnel when the barking of the stray drew the attention of prison guards.
The dog started barking when the head of one of the prisoners emerged from the tunnel on the outside.
In another incident involving dogs and the law, a yellow Labrador called Tiza has sniffed out $110,000 being smuggled into Uruguay in the glove compartment of a car and another part of the vehicle.
The money, in $100 bills, was confiscated by the Argentina’s taqx collection agenchy.
