THE Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have maintained the Royal Family’s long connection with dogs by taking on a pet cocker spaniel. The dog currently shares the couple’s home in Anglesey, North Wales, whilst the Duke is on rescue helicopter duty in the Falklands.

The Queen is obviously the most famous Royal dog owner and she is currently has three of her beloved corgis, Monty, Willow and Holly. She also has three crossbred dorgis (Corgi – Dachshund) .

Other Royals to have had a close relationship with dogs include George VI, the late father of the Queen, who introduced the corgi to the family with his dog Dookie. Queen Victoria loved collies, whilst the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall currently have three dogs all of whom came from Battersea Dogs’ Home.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridgeshire’s new dog is seen as a replacement for the black Labrador known as Widgeon, given to the Duke by his late mother Princess Diana.
