DOGS will play a crucial role in the security of the London Olympics, the Government has revealed.

It seems as many as 155 dogs – mostly spaniels – will be involved in patrolling the Olympic Park in Stratford in the East End of London. Their job will be to detect explosives, amongst other things and keep the athletes, spectators and sponsors safe during the summer extravaganza.

James Brokenshire, the government minister responsible for national security, says the dogs will comes from police forces, the military and the organising committee of the London 2012 Olympics.

It is anticipated that 55 teams of explosive dog teams could be working at the Olympics on any given working day. And that is in addition to the deployment of sniffer dogs from the police and ministry of defence.
